Asian Youth
Services
Was the first organization to welcome our assistance
and is our primary beneficiary for 2010.
Asian Youth Services started as
an after school-tutoring program for students aged 5-20, in uptown Chicago. AYS
serves between 40 and 70 youths, with increased attendance during special
events. When the program started back in 1991 the children were primarily of
Cambodian descent, with several students of Laotian and Vietnamese origin. In
an environment where gangs, drugs, high school dropout rates, and teen
pregnancy are prominent, AYS provides a safe and welcoming atmosphere for the
children. Now located in Albany
Park, the nationality of the children has changed, to now include Asian,
Central and South American, and African American children as well.
AYS has grown into much more than
an after school program and currently holds scholarships for 38 students in 8
Parochial schools. AYS serves as a concerned and supportive resource for the
children. AYS cares for the children unconditionally and provides support
groups, social event, and other services that help prevent the students from
engaging in gang activity. These children desperately need guidance and
protection, and AYS attempts to provide this. Committed to caring for and
connecting the youths with opportunities for success, they aid them in finding
a positive and empowered place in mainstream society.
In addition to monetary donations
AYS can use:
* Volunteers and tutors
* Daily meals and/or snacks to feed the kids
everyday after school.
* School, art, household, office supplies, and
old books.
* Professional services; legal, accounting and
IT.
AYS
is not currently available to take contributions online. You can go to
our store page and make direct donations to them. They will receive all
but what paypal retains in transaction fees.
It takes $50 per day to provide a meal for the kids after school each day and on Saturday. Sponsor a meal or a week of meals or simply contribute what you can every bit helps.

By The Hand
By The
Hand Club For Kids™
(formerly known as Kids' Club)
Since its beginning in 2001 with 16
children,
By The Hand has witnessed
tremendous transformation
within the lives of our kids—and as an
organization.
This year we will serve 726 kids and,
we hope,
1,000 by the year 2012. As we continue
to grow,
we’re reaching out to more children in
different
neighborhoods and introducing
ourselves to new
supporters across the country.
Our name, By The Hand
captures the essence of
what distinguishes our after-school
programs
from others. We literally and
figuratively take
kids by the hand and walk alongside
them from
the time they enroll in our program
until they’re
walking independently as
well-adjusted, responsible
adults. We tutor them to academic
excellence.
We mentor them to their full
potential. And
we care for them as our own.
Taking
kids by the hand
By The Hand is an
after-school
program with an emphasis on academics
and a
commitment to nurturing the whole
child—mind,
body and soul. Founded in
Cabrini-Green and
located strategically throughout some
of Chicago's
most impoverished innercity
communities, where
overcrowded and underfunded schools
abound.
By The Hand is filling a
special need—and
with great success. Kids are saying no
to drugs,
gang violence and teenage pregnancy.
They are
rejecting illiteracy and poverty as a
way of
life. Instead, they are developing
into honor-roll
students and changing the trajectory
of their
lives. When you partner with By
The Hand,
you are helping kids realize their
full potential.
In doing so, you are making a
difference for
generations to come.
